The Baroque Era

One of the oldest parts of the Leyland grounds is the old chapel, now a ruin. It is not very much known about the site before its decay, but we get to know some information still availbale during the 18th century through the diary of Lady Cartwright. We know, she visited the chapel and its grounds frequently and even managed to stop the lapse of the remaining walls. The building wasn't reconstructed as ruins were quite the rage in the lady's lifetime and considered as parts of landscaping the park of a country house.
